DR Maroon on Resveratrol and Anti-Aging

The book: The Longevity Factor How Resveratrol & Red Wine activate genes for a longer and healthier life by Joseph Maroon, M.D.

On Page 193 Dr Maroon writes this on Vivix: "There is growing evidence that a combination of resveratrol and other potent polyphenols might provide improved health benefits due to the synergistic properties of different polyphenols from different plant sources. Shaklee Corporation, a direct selling nutrition company has recently released a product called Vivix, which is described as a cellular anti-aging tonic. It contains a multi-source polyphenol blend.

In conversations with the company, they state that the blend includes 100 mg of 98 percent pure resveratrol from Polygonum cuspidatum long with a proprietary extract derived from the fresh pomace of muscadine grapes (Vitis rotundifolia) The company recommends 5ml per day of Vivix, which they state is equivalent to the abount of resveratrol found in 100 glasses of red pinot noir red wine.

The muscadine polyphenols in this blended product along with the added resveratrol, European elderberry extract, and purple carrot extract will increase the total overall polyphenol content of this product. A month's supply will cost a member $85.00. In Shaklee's accompanying literature for Vivix, they state that the Vivix ingredients were shown in a laboratory study to be 10 times more powerful in slowing a key mechanism of aging than resveratrol alone."

Also, on Page 70, the author expands on the value of the muscadine grapes and the advantages over European grapes. "Muscadine grapes are native to North America, and may be the only fruit that originated in the United States and nowhere else.

They grow almost exclusively in the southeastern United States. They thrive under adverse conditions, perhaps due to their thicker and tougher skins compared to European grapes....muscadines have an extra chromosome(twenty instead of the nineteen other grapes have).

These additional genes allow muscadine grapes to produce a unique phytochemical, ellagic acid. The ellagive acid polyphenol compounds that are in muscadine grapes are vitually absent in other grapes. Ellagic acid is used by the muscadine grape skin to make tannin called ellagotannins, whichis used as an antimicrobial by the plant.

Ellagic acid also has powerful antioxidant and anticancer properties....the polyphenols in muscadine grape skins have been shown to have positive effects in heart disease, high cholesterol, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and other inflammatory conditions. One of the more interesting effects of muscadine products appears to be their inhibition of AGE protein formation."

Continuing, the author states:" Recently, a large nutrition, direct selling company, Shaklee Corporation, working with scientists from the University of Georgia, has created a product containing an extract made from muscadine pomace which is the remaining fruit solids after the water content is extracted. Specificaly, they are working with muscadine grape growers in order to secure grapes with large amounts of protective polyphenols including ellagic acid and resveratrol. By selecting muscadine grapes and by using a whole grape extraction process, they have reported that their extract has a significantly higher concentration of healthy polyphenols than found in the skins themselves."

The above are excerpts from the book "The Longevity Factor" The author Joseph Maroon, M.D. FA.C.S. studied medicine at Indiana University, and Oxford University. Dr Maroon is a world renowned neurosurgeon and former president of the Congress of Neurological surgeons, the larges society of its kind in North America. He is currently a professor and Heindl Scholor in Neuroscience at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Interesting to note: he is a lifelong athlete, competed in more than fifty triathlons, and three Hawaiian Ironman Championship competitions.

The book is heralded as a groundbreaking examination of new scientific research that holds the secret to weight loss, increased strength, endurance, memory, and a healthier, longer life.

I believe the author, Joseph Maroon, M.D. has no connection with Shaklee Corporation, and the references in the book to Shaklee Corporation and our product Vivix..serve as an excellent third party reference.

Hearing test and VIVIX testimonial

This just in from Shirley a Shaklee Distributor..

Today I went in for my yearly hearing aid check up at the audiologist. He said that it has been a number of years since I had a hearing test and this is especially important considering my age. After the tests were completed he compared the results today with the previous tests. He said he didn't understand why the results of today's testing were so out of line with my previous tests. Then he showed me the comparison. He said my tests today showed my hearing to be ABOVE the "normal" line whereas my previous tests showed all my scores to be way BELOW the "normal" range. He said this can't be because no one has ever had this much improvement in their hearing in all the years he has been in this business. He said that something isn't right, no one has this dramatic improvement in hearing and especially considering your age.

Then I told him that I felt sure I had the explanation for the improvement - it's Vivix. Then I briefly told him what this product is and the testimonials Shaklee has received of vastly improved health because of this product. That it is so unique Shaklee has applied for patents. I asked him if he'd like for me to drop off information and science about this product. He said "yes".

I've gotta comment on this testimonial. It makes perfect sense to me too knowing that Vivix actually goes into the DNA of the cell and protects and repairs it. There is a reason it's called an anti-aging tonic... Who knows what it could do you for your body.

University of Tennessee, Shaklee Team to Study Impact of VIVIX Polyphenols on Cellular Energy and Metabolism

Can a supplement with resveratrol and polyphenols boost cellular energy and metabolism? Researchers at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and Shaklee Corporation have partnered to address these questions by studying the impact of a unique blend of resveratrol and muscadine polyphenols found in Shaklee VIVIX Cellular Anti-Aging* dietary supplement, on human muscle cell mitochondria, the intra-cellular power plants that generate cellular energy.

With this research, Dr. Jamie McManus, Chairman of Medical Affairs, Health Sciences and Education at Shaklee, and Dr. Michael Zemel of the University of Tennessee are seeking to determine the impact of this unique polyphenol blend on key biological processes related to cellular energy production and aging.

"One of the key mechanisms of aging is a decline in mitochondrial mass as well as the effectiveness of the mitochondria," said Dr. McManus. "In our research, we're trying to validate the impact of VIVIX polyphenols on mitochondrial biogenesis -- shorthand for how the number and size of mitochondria help create cellular energy and boost metabolism. We're excited to share our research goals with the medical community and create a baseline for future studies on polyphenols and cellular energy metabolism."

VIVIX was developed by Shaklee scientists by combining resveratrol with an extract from the only grape in nature that contains an extra chromosome. This muscadine super grape has polyphenols that complement the many benefits of resveratrol. Shaklee scientists created a unique profile of polyphenols shown in laboratory studies to positively impact multiple mechanisms of cellular aging.*

Vivix Resveratrol Anti-Aging Testimonies

Before I post these testimonies understand these testimonies come from real folks using Vivix these testimonies are not endorsed or tested by Shaklee.. it's just results some folks are getting. Everyone of us is different (meaning we aren't clones) and you may have different results. I just know Vivix anti-aging tonic works to protect and repair the DNA of the cells in your body. Who know's what it will protect and repair for you.

TYPE II DIABETIC AND VIVIX
A couple of months ago I got a very good friend of mine who has Type II diabetes to go on the Vivix. I had sent her some information on resveratrol and the amazing effects it is having on people's health. I told her I knew of a top of the line product loaded with resveratrol and other important ingredients that far outweigh
anything out there. She has already discussed with me the increase in energy she feels and how the spots on the back of her hands have disappeared.

Here's a shining testimonial she shared with me tonight - I'm so incredibly excited for her! "I was super sick for about four days; dousing myself in peppermint oil did no good. While deciding whether to draw up a will or break down and go to the doctor, I chose the doctor because it was cheaper and faster. Good news! My general health has improved so much and I've lost such a substantial amount of weight that I was overmedicating, which was what was making me so sick. He took me off two dosages completely and cut one in half. Could Vivix be the culprit here? Ya think?" Claire Peters

HUGE RESULTS WITH MS USING VIVIX
I have MS. And for me since I started using Shaklee products, I quit taking the MS drug, (too many side effects) and I was doing better in the physical sense using Shaklee. When Vivix came out, I added it to my regimen of supplements. I’m walking better, and I’m (hold your breath ... maybe you should sit down!) STARTING TO “RUN”! I am, to say the least, more than pleased with that fact. Kevin

Anti-Aging Resveratrol Heart Benefits Pinpointed

Could resveratrol be your heart's best friend?
Two recent studies published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition report that red wine appears to have a direct effect on the health of the cells lining blood vessels, while resveratrol may also influence the function of fat cells, and reduce the risk of developing conditions related to obesity.
I can drink to that (or just grab my teaspoon of Vivix). Stay Healthy Everyone!
Get the scoop... Resveratrol’s heart health benefits pinpointed?

Kosher Vivix vs Vivix the Difference

I've got this question about Shaklee's Resveratrol Anti-Aging Tonic more than once, so here is your answer straight from Shaklee's Field Communication Staff.

The primary polyphenol source in the Kosher Polyphenol blend is pomegranate, rather than muscadine grape as contained in Vivix. Both product formulations contain 100 mg of 98% pure resveratrol, as well as a significant level of additional non-resveratrol polyphenols from the Rejuvetrol or Kosher Polyphenol blends. In laboratory studies, the ingredients in both Vivix and Kosher Vivix have been shown to impact key mechanisms of cellular aging.

Due to processing issues, we have not been able to create a kosher Vivix formulation that contains the muscadine grape, a nonkosher ingredient. In accordance with kosher law, a rabbi would need to be present during all of the various stages of production, including the pressing of the grapes at harvest. This timescale, along with the complexity of the specific production processes needed, precludes offering a kosher product that includes the muscadine grape.

I've also gotten asked about the sugar content in Vivix (Shaklee's Resveratrol Anti-Aging Tonic)

Here again is your answer from Shaklee Field Communications:

Vivix contains 2.5 grams of carbohydrate sugars from sorbitol in the Vivix one teaspoon serving
size.

For comparison, an ordinary glass of milk provides about 12 grams of carbohydrate sugars, a glass of orange juice about 22 grams, and an ordinary banana contains about 26 grams of carbohydrate sugars-more than 10 times the amount in a serving of Vivix. While diabetics need to
consult with their doctor about diet, sorbitol is slowly metabolized and would not be expected to significantly affect blood sugar levels. It can be used as an alternative to sugar by diabetics on the advice of their health care provider.

Anti-Aging: Just look at her she's 99 yrs old

Marysville's Margaret Kime still plugging along after 99 years.

By Kristi O'Harran
Herald Columnist
MARYSVILLE -- If Shaklee nutrition company wants to document its success, they should visit Margaret Kime.

She’s been taking their products for almost 50 years. Kime swears by Vivix, an anti-aging tonic.

She is 99 years old.

Her husband, Ed, 91, lives down her hallway at Madeline Villa in Marysville. Kime said she has outlived two sons and has no one else to care for her.

It was great to see her again. I wrote about her in 2003.

“Not aging, just marinating” was the headline.

She’s marinated quite well.

Kime still wears her thin hair short, saying it’s easier to take care of. Her health is good, though her eyes are going bad. She wants for nothing and loves Madeline Villa.

“The housework is done,” Kime said. “This is living.”

Her room is sparse, with only a few bits of memorabilia. She won countless blue ribbons at the Evergreen State Fair for machine knitting — after she was 80 years old.

The bulk of the ribbons were donated to Special Olympics.

“Somebody is going to enjoy those ribbons,” she said.

Her hometown is Sultan, where her father worked for the railroad. She said she is the last of the 17 graduates from Sultan High School’s class of 1928.

Ten years ago, the Kimes moved to senior housing in Everett.

She wasn’t going to tip back in a recliner, she said, although she did give up teaching and custom knitting. She made more than 1,200 sweaters by machine through the years.

Kime got busy meeting apartment dwellers from New York, Florida and Tennessee. The job she fashioned for herself was that of a social director.

She said if you wanted to make a friend, just walk the hallways.

At the nursing home, Mark Hinricksen got to know Kime when his mother, Jane Hinricksen, was Kime’s roommate.

“Margaret was a great influence on her,” Mark Hinricksen said.

His mother recovered from a fall and has since left the nursing home.

Mark Hinricksen said he enjoyed Kime’s long memory, including stories from World War I. When Kime was a youngster and her father worked the railroad telegraph, he was the first person in town to know the war had ended.

Hinricksen said Kime made him laugh for hours with her stories.

“She’s sharp as a tack,” he said.

Kime’s humor is delightful.

“At age 25, you have a lot of boyfriends and wonder who will I take?” she said. “At age 58, you wonder what can I get?”

Seven years ago, Kime talked about the benefits of staying active. Not so active these days, she isn’t interested in going on group outings or shopping.

“Shopping isn’t my thing,” she said. “I haven‘t been to the Everett Mall in 30 years.”

She would travel for one thing — to see an exhibit of glass by Dale Chihuly.

All in all, life is good for this 99-year-old. She savors memories, such as the years she ran a booth at the old three-day Monroe Fair.

She cooked and sold rabbit.

Yes, folks stood in line for rabbit, she said.

Kime said she is content with how much world she saw in her day. She even met her guru, company founder Dr. Forrest C. Shaklee, twice.

When I saw this article pop up on my radar I knew I had to share it. Just look at Margaret's skin. At 99 years old her skin is beautiful. Looks like Shaklee Products has been a perfect match for Kime.

Anti Aging Resveratrol Testimony of 90 yr old

This testimony is like a breath of fresh air. I work at home online and generally don't see many people but about once a week. Last night we went to a chicken BBQ fundraiser the local FFA (Future Farmers of America) hosted. It was so sad for me to see several overweight young students. All I could think about is what their quality of life will be in 20 years.

When this testimony of a 90 yr. old came across my desk, it felt so good to know as a Shaklee distributor I have the products and education to make a difference in the lives of people young and old.

As you read through this testimony, I bet you have a loved one who you would love to see results like this "Dad" has had. Here is the testimony.....

My Dad was VERY unhealthy in his sixties before Shaklee. Then Shaklee came along and my mother made sure he took generous servings daily for years. Dad is 90 years old now and still runs his lumberyard, sees his lady friend daily and is very sharp mentally.

When Vivix came along, my Dad did not think he needed it. I gave him the "talk" about the need for it and gave him the "talk" again several months in a row to convince him he needed it daily. Now he is absolutely convinced and takes it every day without fail. These are his results. By the way, Dad takes no medications at all, his health kit is Shaklee nutrition which he eats daily. His eyesight is better, his skin looks younger (many people think he is in his 60's as he really looks that young), his heart is stronger (he had a some irregularity in his heartbeat at his last checkup, his heart is beating stronger and with a more regular beat now), but the one that Dad is really thrilled about is the lack of pain in his stomach.

He lifted something quite heavy about five years ago and felt something tear. He had blood in his urine so visited the doctor and was checked with several tests and nothing could be found. But since that time he has had an uncomfortable feeling and he cannot lift anything very heavy, sometimes I think my Dad thinks he is 20 again. He was so excited to share with me a couple of weeks ago the pain is gone from whatever the problem was. He can lift again with no pain.

I write this as people seem to feel that past a certain age, improvement is impossible. Not so, Dad has proved that. ~Sondra

Something to think about. Vivix (Anti Aging Resveratrol) protects and repairs the DNA of the cell. This is EVERY cell in your body! Can you think of any adult that couldn't be helped by this product? By the time we turn 18 their probably isn't anyone immune to a damaged cell in their body at one time or another. Just like this "Dad" 5 years ago something happened in his stomach that didn't repair itself until he had a little help from Vivix.

The human body if given the right nutrients has the ability to heal itself. I've been blessed to have the ability to educate and help folks understand we all have choices about our body. We can choose what we put in or on it. The choice is yours, my job is to bring you the information to make an informed decision.
